The book ‘Kaljayee Kumar Gandharva’ was Vidushi Vasundhara Komkali’s cherished vision of a book which focusses on Kumarji’s contribution to Indian Classical Music and not just his personal memories. Her inspiration and support made me take up the responsibility of carrying out this monumental project. After six years of untiring effort, Smt Rekha Inamdar Sane (co-author and editor) and I fulfilled this vision and the first edition of ‘Kaljayee Kumar Gandharva’ was published in 2014.
Kumarji’s musical genius requires a multi-dimensional approach for its full comprehension. We have tried our best to do this by involving authors, scholars and advisors drawn from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise in this project. The articles in these volumes employ diverse schemes of articulation ranging from mathematical analysis to discursive or experimental interpretations of Kumarji’s music.
I express deep gratitude towards Shree Pu Bhagwat of Mauj Prakashan, Mumbai who was a close friend of Kumarji and published both volumes of ‘Anoop Raagvilas’- Kumarji’s books on classical compositions. His support and encouragement was of immense help to me.
The Volume 1 is in Marathi and has been published by Rajhans publication Pune and the Volume 2 (Hindi &English) has been published by Vani prakashan, Delhi. Both the volumes contain separate articles and are not translations of each other.
These are available at the publication houses and their outlets as well as at Kumar Gandharva Pratishthan, Dewas.
